## What it is

An aggregated market-data API from CoinPaprika, the coin-ranking site. What you are buying
is the asset layer: one price, volume and market-cap figure per coin, computed across the
exchanges CoinPaprika tracks, plus the reference data around it — coin profiles, team members,
events, tags, exchanges and their markets, contract addresses by platform, and a price converter.
The docs claim more than 60,000 assets in the database, over 11,000 of them active, and more than
350 active exchanges; the API's own `/global` endpoint reported 11,887 cryptocurrencies on
2026-10-04, and `/contracts` listed 312 contract platforms. The landing page's "3x higher market
coverage" than CoinGecko counts the 60,000-plus including inactive coins; against CoinGecko's
18,000 the active count is the smaller of the two.

The buyer is a developer who wants a CoinGecko- or CoinMarketCap-shaped feed — tickers, market
caps, daily OHLCV, a coin ID scheme — at a lower entry price and without a key for the first
20,000 calls. It is not a trading feed: no order books, no trade tape, no derivatives.

The same company publishes [DexPaprika](https://cryptomarkets.tools/tools/dexpaprika), a separate API for DEX pools, swaps and on-chain token
prices. That is a different product with its own host and SDKs, and this card does not describe
it.

## Pricing

Six plans on the pricing page: Free, then $99, $199, $799 and $1,499 a month, and Enterprise on
contract. The listed figures are monthly. Annual billing takes 10% off, but only on Ultimate and
Enterprise and only by contacting sales. The table marks payment in crypto as available from
Business up; the FAQ says payments are taken in fiat through Stripe, so ask before relying on it.

The unit is a plain call, not a weighted credit — 400,000 calls on Starter are 400,000
requests. That makes the allowance easy to plan against, and it also means one `/tickers` call
returning every active coin costs the same as a single-coin lookup.

What the price ladder mostly buys is history, not throughput. Daily history runs 1 year on Free,
5 years on Starter and full from Pro up. Hourly history is 1 day, 1 month, 3 months, 1 year, then
unlimited from Ultimate. OHLCV history follows the same 1 day / 1 month / 3 months / 1 year /
unlimited ladder, and the OHLCV interval is fixed at 24 hours until Business, which adds 1, 6 and
12 hours; 5-, 15- and 30-minute candles are Enterprise-only. The 5-minute price series runs 1 week
on Starter, 1 month on Pro and 1 year on Business; the free plan has none, and no circulating
supply.

The free plan's licence is personal, not commercial. Every paid plan is commercial use inside
your company; redistribution — showing the data to your users as part of a product — is
Enterprise-only. Subscriptions are non-refundable; a monthly plan can be cancelled at the end of
the period.

## Data & coverage

A price is a volume-weighted average across the markets CoinPaprika tracks, after outlier
filtering and exchange confidence scoring described in its published methodology. It will
differ slightly from any one venue's quote, and it is not reconcilable against an order book.

Freshness is the field to read before buying, and CoinPaprika's own pages give three figures for
it. The pricing table says up to every 10 minutes on Free and up to every 3 minutes on Starter
through Ultimate; the `/tickers` documentation says "on average 5 minutes" free and 60 seconds
paid; the API FAQ says "up to 3 minutes, or up to 5 minutes". All three were read on 2026-10-04.
Up to every minute is Enterprise-only, which is also the only plan with websockets. Poll
`last_updated` on your own plan before building on the faster figure. On 2026-10-05 the free
`/v1/tickers` response carried `max-age=5`, so the cache is not what holds a price back.

Rate limits come in two layers: a global 10 requests a second per IP on every plan, and the
monthly call allowance. Hitting either returns `429` or `402`. On the free plan the monthly
allowance is counted per IP rather than per account — on 2026-10-04 the `ratelimit-remaining`
header on a first request from our address already read 17,190 of 20,000, which is what a shared
IP looks like. The free plan also sees only 2,000 assets.

The ID-mappings endpoint, which maps other providers' coin IDs to CoinPaprika's, is Business and
above.

## Integrations

The MCP server is hosted and keyless, at `mcp.coinpaprika.com` with SSE and JSON-RPC transports.
An unauthenticated `tools/list` returned 31 tools on 2026-10-04, from `getCoins` and
`getTickersHistoricalById` to `resolveId`, `getMappings` and `keyInfo`. The `coinpaprika` GitHub
organisation carries the MCP code under MIT.

Also first-party: a `coinpaprika-cli` terminal client, a Claude Code plugin, and client libraries
under the same organisation — the Node.js client was pushed to on 13 September 2026 and the Go
client on 1 September 2026. The FAQ lists SDKs for Python, PHP, Go, JS/TS, Swift and Kotlin and
warns that some are community-maintained, so check who publishes the one you install.

## Limitations

No order books, trades, funding, open interest or options — this is an asset-level aggregate.

"Real time" is minutes, not seconds, on every self-serve plan — up to three by the pricing table,
and the docs disagree on the exact figure. Anything that needs a price within
seconds of a trade needs Enterprise or a different vendor.

Intraday history is the expensive part. A year of hourly OHLCV is $799 a month, and 1-minute
candles are not on the price list at all.

The free plan is personal-use only and capped at 2,000 assets, and its quota is shared with
everyone behind the same IP — from a cloud host or office NAT the 20,000 calls may already be
partly spent.

No on-chain or DEX pool data on this API; that is [DexPaprika](https://cryptomarkets.tools/tools/dexpaprika).

## Alternatives

The [CoinGecko API](https://cryptomarkets.tools/tools/coingecko-api) and the [CoinMarketCap API](https://cryptomarkets.tools/tools/coinmarketcap-api)
sell the same shape of aggregated asset data. Both answer some requests without a key too —
CoinGecko under an unpublished per-IP limit, CoinMarketCap through its public API — and both put
websockets lower down the ladder and onchain endpoints alongside. For a venue-level tape rather than an aggregate,
[CoinAPI](https://cryptomarkets.tools/tools/coinapi) and [CoinDesk Data](https://cryptomarkets.tools/tools/coindesk-data) are the usual step up.

## FAQ

### Do I need an API key for the CoinPaprika free plan?

No. The free plan is served from api.coinpaprika.com without a key, and the quota is counted per IP address — on 2026-10-04 the response headers carried a 20,000-call limit and a reset roughly 27 days out. Paid plans use a key against a separate host, api-pro.coinpaprika.com.

### Can I use the CoinPaprika free API commercially?

No. The pricing page sets the free plan's terms of use to personal, and every paid plan to commercial use inside your own company. Redistributing the data or showing it to your own customers as a product needs the Enterprise contract.

### How fresh are CoinPaprika prices?

Not tick-level on any self-serve plan, and CoinPaprika's own pages disagree on the figure. The pricing table says up to 10 minutes on Free and up to 3 minutes on Starter through Ultimate; the /tickers documentation says on average 5 minutes free and 60 seconds paid. Up to one minute, and websockets, are Enterprise-only.

### Does CoinPaprika have an MCP server?

Yes, hosted at mcp.coinpaprika.com with SSE and JSON-RPC transports. On 2026-10-04 an unauthenticated tools/list request to the JSON-RPC endpoint returned 31 tools covering coins, tickers, OHLCV, exchanges, contracts, search, ID resolution and key info.

### Is DexPaprika the same thing as the CoinPaprika API?

No. [DexPaprika](/tools/dexpaprika) is the same company's separate DEX and liquidity-pool API, with its own host, documentation and SDKs. CoinPaprika's own data is the aggregated, asset-level view; pools and swaps are DexPaprika's job.
