DEXTools
The original DEX pair explorer, with premium tiers gated on holding its own token.

What it is
The oldest of the DEX screeners still in daily use, and still built around Pair Explorer — the single-pair page with a chart, the swap list, the holder and liquidity panels and a score. Around it sit Live New Pairs, Big Swap Explorer, a Meme Board, a Token Race, a KOLs tab, a predictions tab, a perpetuals screen and a per-chain volume table.
Two things separate it from the rest of the category. The first is that it does not stop at looking: DEXTswap is an in-app aggregator, so a wallet connects and a swap executes without leaving the page, with the quote routed by a third-party provider and a direct DEX route offered as a fallback. The second is PerpTools, a perpetuals screen carrying price, 24-hour volume, open interest, 8-hour funding and leverage badges up to 100x with a Trade control beside each row — derivatives data that neither DEX Screener nor GeckoTerminal offers at all.
Signing in is by wallet, with an optional Telegram connection. No identity documents are asked for and nothing on the reading side requires an account.
Pricing
The price does not normalise, and pretending otherwise would be the lie on this card. DEXTools publishes three tiers and only one of them has a fee. Free is free. Standard opens either by holding 1,000 DEXT or by a subscription the vendor quotes at $19.90 a month and settles in DEXT. Premium opens one way only — by holding 100,000 DEXT — and carries no fiat figure anywhere.
A holding threshold is not a price. It is a position you take and can sell, its dollar cost changes every minute, and converting 100,000 DEXT into a number for this card would publish a figure the vendor has never charged and that would be wrong by the time you read it. So the card carries the one number the vendor itself prints and leaves the other two as what they are.
What the paid tiers buy, in the vendor's own order: no advertising first, then Telegram and mail price alerts, then 12 hot pairs instead of 10 (15 on Premium), a private holders' group, more trade analytics, wallet info and a positions tracker. Read that list and the arrangement is clear — the main thing sold is the removal of something, and the secondary thing sold is membership.
The developer API is a different product with real dollar prices, and it belongs in the integrations section below rather than here.
Data & coverage
Spot DEX pools plus perpetuals, across a long list of chains. On 2026-09-19 the per-chain table led with Solana at $5.20B of 24-hour volume across 157K pools, then BNB Chain at $3.08B, Robinhood Chain at $1.34B across 206K pools, Ethereum at $1.05B, Base at $841.80M, then Arbitrum, Polygon, HyperEVM and Avalanche, with Arc, Mantle, Tron, Sui, Optimism, Monad, Unichain, X Layer, XRPL, Linea and Flare below. The vendor claims 139 blockchains, 42,758,615 pools and 52,736,407 tokens; those are its figures, not a count we made, and the same page carries two mutually inconsistent traffic claims — "more than 15M monthly users" in one paragraph and "20,000,000 visitors per month" in the counter below it.
A related and smaller inconsistency is worth knowing about if you are going to hold the token to pay for the product: on 2026-09-19 the site printed DEXT's circulating supply as 85,544,654 on its front page and 69,344,654 on its own token page, against a total supply of 140,551,255 on both.
The pair table's columns are the screening product — market cap, liquidity, 24-hour volume, 5-minute and 1-hour change, a proprietary score, an audit flag, 24-hour swap count, volatility, creation time and the contract address. The score and the audit flag are the two a reader will lean on, and both are computed by DEXTools rather than by a named third party.
Integrations
The HTTP API is sold separately through a developer portal with four plans, and the plans are priced in dollars in a way the app is not. A $9-a-month trial gives 100,000 calls, one request a second, one concurrent request and data "from 120 sec" old. Standard at $99 gives 1M calls, two requests a second and 30-second freshness. Advanced at $249 gives 2M calls and five a second. Pro at $799 gives 5M calls, 15 a second, 10 concurrent and 15-second freshness. Note what the freshness column is doing there — on this API, "real time" is a number that goes down as you pay more, which is more honest than most and worth budgeting around.
The free API plan is currently switched off. The portal states it was disabled "due to misuse by malicious actors" and that it will be re-enabled after countermeasures; no date is given.
There is no MCP server, no webhook and no SDK named in the portal. On the app side the integrations are Telegram price bots on the free tier and Telegram plus mail alerts on Standard.
Limitations
Advertising sits on the same screen as the new pairs, and the vendor charges to remove it. The first benefit listed against the paid tier is "no advertisement", which is the vendor's own confirmation that the free product carries ads — and it carries them on a surface whose entire content is tokens that came into existence hours ago, which is exactly where scams and rug pulls live. The app shell preconnects to two third-party ad networks. We make no claim that listing or ranking position is for sale; that was not checked and is not asserted. What the reader needs to know is narrower and enough: a token being on the screen means nothing about it, and some of what is on the screen is there because somebody paid.
Pricing that cannot be compared. Two of three tiers are token-holding thresholds, so DEXTools cannot be put next to a $19-a-month competitor and evaluated. If you take the holding route your cost is the token's drawdown, which is unbounded and has nothing to do with the software.
The API has no free tier right now. If your plan was to prototype against the free plan, it is off, with no restoration date published.
Phishing clones. This is not the vendor's fault and it is a fact about using the product — DEXTools is among the most impersonated domains in crypto, and a pair explorer that asks you to connect a wallet is a high-value target for a lookalike. Type the address or use the app.
No centralised-exchange data. Like the rest of this part of the category, the tape is on-chain. Perpetuals are covered but spot CEX prices are not.
Self-reported scale. The traffic, chain and pool counters come from the vendor's marketing page and contradict each other within that page. Treat them as claims.
Alternatives
DEX Screener is the tool most of this audience moved to — cleaner, keyless API, no token in the way, but no swap, no perpetuals and no candle endpoint. GeckoTerminal covers far more networks and publishes OHLCV, and is the better choice if the data matters more than the trading surface. The rest of the field sits in Crypto Charting Platforms & Libraries.

Head to head
- DEX Screener vs DEXTools — Both DEX screeners are free and both are paid for by the tokens on the screen — but only one of them sells a multiplier on its own trending list.
Also worth comparing
- Coinalyze — Free futures screener — open interest, funding, basis and liquidations in one table.
- CoinAnk — Derivatives screener with order-flow footprint, volume profile and Hyperliquid whale data.
- CoinGlass — Free derivatives screener — liquidation heatmaps, funding and open interest in a browser.
- DEX Screener — DEX pair screener and charts on 64 chains, paid for by token promotion rather than by you.
- GeckoTerminal — CoinGecko's DEX tracker — 228 networks, 1,978 DEXes, free to read, free to query slowly.
- Hyblock Capital — Order-book and liquidation metrics with screeners, rankmaps and a backtesting lab.

Background
How this part of the industry works, rather than which product to pick.
- A token threshold is not a price — Some tools unlock features by requiring you to hold the vendor's token, not pay it. What that really costs, and why it cannot be compared with a monthly fee.
FAQ
How much does DEXTools premium cost?
For two of the three tiers, the honest answer is that it has no price. The vendor's plan table opens Standard either by holding 1,000 DEXT or by a monthly subscription quoted at $19.90 and paid in DEXT, and opens Premium only by holding 100,000 DEXT. A holding threshold is a position you take, not a fee you pay, and its dollar cost moves with the token.
Is DEXTools free?
Yes, for most of what people use it for — Live New Pairs, Pair Explorer, Big Swap Explorer, Multichart, the aggregator, desktop alerts and My Positions are all on the free tier. What the paid tiers add, first on the list, is turning the advertising off.
Does DEXTools have an API?
It has a separate developer product with its own plans, starting at a $9-a-month trial with 100,000 calls, one request a second and data "from 120 sec" old, up to $799 a month for 5M calls at 15 requests a second and 15-second freshness. The free API plan is currently disabled — the portal says it was misused.
Can I trade on DEXTools?
Yes. DEXTswap is an in-app aggregator — connect a wallet, pick a pair, and the quote is routed by a third-party provider with a direct DEX route offered as a fallback. The perpetuals screen also carries a Trade control. Reading the site needs no wallet at all.
Is DEXTools legitimate?
The product is real and current — the domain dates to 2020, the iOS app was updated in June 2026, the developer portal is live and the screens were serving hours-old pairs when this card was written. The practical caution is different — dextools.io is one of the most cloned domains in crypto, so check the address bar rather than a link someone sent you.
